Cessation of menstrual flow before the age of menopause may be known as Naṣṭārtava.
Treatment
Single Drugs
1. Kalka of wood of Bījaka (Indian kino tree)-6 to 12 g. to be taken with cold water twice a day.
2. Kalka of leaf of Jyotiṣmatī (staff tree)-6 to 12 g. to be taken with 50 ml. cold water twice a day.
3. Kalka of rhizome of Vacā (sweet flag)-6 to 12 g. to be taken with water twice a day.
4. Kalka of Japā Puṣpa-6 to 12 g. mixed in Kāñjī to be taken twice a day.
5. Kṛṣṇa Tila (black sesame)-6 to 12 g. to be taken with 5 to 10 g. Guḍa (jaggery) twice a day.
Simple Preparations
1. Leaf of Jyotiṣmatī (staff tree)-6 to 12 g., fried in ghee and ground in the Svarasa (juice) of whole plant of Dūrvā (doob grass)-7 to 14 ml. to be taken with 50 ml. water twice a day.
2. Decoction of fruit of Gajapippalī -14 to 28 ml. to be taken with 5 to 10 g. Guḍa (jaggery) twice a day.
3. Decoction of fruit sacks of Tāla-14 to 28 ml. to be taken with 5 to 10 g. Guḍa (jaggery) twice a day.
4. Decoction of Pīvarī-14 to 28 ml. to be taken with 5 to 10 g. Guḍa (jaggery) twice a day.
5. Decoction of seed of Gārjara (carrot)-14 to 28 ml. to be taken with Guḍa (jaggery) twice a day.
6. Decoction of equal part of seeds of Kulattha (dolichos bean) and Māṣa (black phaseolus bean)-14 to 28 ml. to be taken with 5 to 10 g. Guḍa (jaggery) twice a day.
7. Decoction of equal part of root of Añjuvāra, whole plants of Miskatarāmasi and Anīsūna, Ābareśama (silk cucoon), seed of Karkaṭī (cucumber), fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops), leaf of Vaṁśa (bamboo) and rhizome of Haridrā (turmeric)-14 to 28 ml. to be taken with Guḍa (jaggery) twice a day.
8. Decoction of equal part of Śuṇṭhī (dried ginger), Marica (black pepper), Ghṛta Bhṛṣṭa Hiṅgu (asafoetida), fruit of Pippalī (long peper)-14 to 28 ml. to be taken twice a day with 3 g. kṛṣṇa Tila (black sesame seed).
9. Powder of equal part of root of Rāsnā (Indian groundsel), fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops), root of Vāsā (vasaka)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.
10. Powder of equal part of flowers of Jyotiṣmatī (staff tree) and Pitaśāla, rhizome of Vacā (sweet flag) and Svarjikā-Kṣāra-3 to 4 g. to be taken with 50 ml. water twice a day.
Compound Preparations
1. Bolādi Vaṭī: 1 to 2 Vaṭī to be taken with 50 ml. water twice a day.
2. Hiṅgukarpura Vaṭī: 1 to 2 Vaṭī to be taken with 50 ml. water twice a day.
3. Hiṅgvādi Vaṭī: 1 to 2 Vaṭī, to be taken with water 50 ml. twice a day.
4. Rajaḥ Pravartinī Vaṭī: 2 to 4 Vaṭī to be taken with 50 ml. water twice a day.
5. Rajo-Doṣa-Hara Vaṭī: 2 to 4 Vaṭī to be taken with 50 ml. water twice a day.
Apathya
Diet consisting of Takra (butter milk), Amla Dadhi (sour curd), Kāñjī, and fish, are harmful for the patient of Kaṣṭārtava and Naṣṭārtava.
