Garbhasrāva Evaṁ Garbhapāta

Premature expulsion of the foetus up to the four months of pregnancy is known as Garbhasrāva and after four months of pregnancy the expulsion is known Garbha Pāta. Symptoms of pain in pelvis and back, uterine discharge, nervousness of the pregnant woman from the first month onward should be treated as follow.
Treatment


Simple Preparations

First month 

1. Powder of equal part of Śuṇṭhī (dried ginger), root of Śatāvarī (wild asparagus), flower of Mallikā (a variety of jasmine)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 50 to 100 ml. Taṇḍulodaka (rice washing) twice a day. 

2. Powder of equal part of Tila (sesame), wood of Padmaka (wild cherry), stem of Padma (lotus) and Ṣaṣṭi (a variety of rice)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk and 5 to 10 g. Śarkarā (raw sugar) twice a day. 

3. Powder of equal part of root of Yaṣṭimadhu (glycyrrhiza), seed of Śāka (teak), stem of Kākolī, wood of Devadāru (deodar)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with milk twice a day.

Second Month 

1. Powder of equal part of stamen of Nīlotpala (blue lotus), fruit of Śṛṅgāṭaka (water chestnut) and root of Kaśeruka-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 50 to 100 ml. Taṇḍulodaka (rice washings), twice a day. 

2. Powder of equal of part of flower of Aśmantaka (white mountain ebony), Śveta Kāñcanāra, seed of Kṛṣṇa Tila (black sesame), roots of Mañjiṣṭhā (madder) and Śatāvarī (wild asparagus)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day or Dugdha Siddha with these drugs to be taken in 250 ml. dose twice a day.

Third month 

1. Powder of equal part of Rakta Kamala (red lotus), Nīlotpala (blue lotus), root of Kuṣṭha (koot)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 5 to 10 g. Śarkarā (raw sugar) and 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day. 

2. Powder of equal part of Vandāka, roots of Kṣīra-Kākolī and Sārivā (Indian Sarsaparilla)- 3 to 6 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day. 

3. Powder of equal part of root of Kākolī and Kṣīra- Kākolī, fruit rind of Āmalakī (embelic myrobalan) ground in warm water to be taken in 6 to 12 g. dose with 50 ml. warm water twice a day.

Fourth Month 

1. Powder of equal part of roots of Sārivā (Indian sarsaparilla), Kṛṣṇa Sārivā, Rāsnā, Bhāraṅgī and Yaṣṭimadhu (glycyrrhiza)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day. 

2. Bruise equal part of fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops), root of Bṛhatī (yellow berried night shade), Nīlotpala (blue lotus)-6 to 12 g. in 100 to 250 ml. milk and take twice a day. 

3. Bruise equal part of stamen of Nīlotpala (blue lotus), stem of Kamala (lotus) root of Kaṇṭakārī (yellow berried night shade), fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops)-3 to 6 g. in 250 ml. milk, and take with 5 to 10 g. Śarkarā (raw sugar) twice a day.

Fifth Month 

1. Take equal part of flower of Nīlotpala (blue lotus) and root of Kṣīrakākolī-3 to 6 g. and 150 ml. milk and 600 ml. water prepare from it Siddha Kṣīra and then add 6 g. ghee and 3 g. honey. It is to be taken twice a day. 

2. Bruise equal part of flowers of Nīlotpala (blue lotus) and Priyaṅgu, root of Kākolī-6 to 12 g. in cold water and take with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day. 

3. Powder of equal part of roots of Kaṇṭakārī (yellow berried night shade) and Bṛhatī (a variety of yellow berried night shade), Gambhārī and Pañcakṣīrī Śuga and Tvak (Dālacīnī)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.

Sixth Month 

1. Grind equal part of fruit of Priyāla (cuddapah almond) and Mṛdvikā (small raisin or grape fruit), and Lājā-12 to 24 g. in water and take twice a day with milk. 

2. Grind equal part of seed of Bījapūra (lemon), wood of Rakta Candana (red sandal), flower of Nīlotpala (blue lotus) and Priyaṅgu-6 to 12 g. in water and take with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day. 

3. Dugdha Siddha with equal part of whole plant of Pṛśniparṇī, root of Balā (country mallow), Śigru (horse-radish), Yaṣṭimadhu (glycyrrhiza) and fruit of Gokṣura (small caltrops)-3 to 6 g. in 100 to 250 ml. milk to be taken twice a day.

Seventh Month 

1. Mṛṇāla Kāṇḍa (lotus stem)-6 to 12 g. bruised in 100 to 250 ml. milk to be taken twice a day. 

2. 12 to 24 g. to equal part of fruit of Kapittha (wood apple), Pūga (areca nut), Lājā (pop of paddy) to be ground in water and taken twice day. 

3. Equal part of powder of Drākṣā (raisin or grape fruit), Kaśeruka, root of Yaṣṭimadhu (glycyrrhiza), stem of Śṛṅgāṭaka (water chestnut), stem of Kamala (lotus) and Śarkarā (raw sugar)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.

Eight Month 

1. Powder of fruit of Dhānyaka (coriander)-3 to 6 g. to be taken with Taṇḍulodaka (rice washings)-50 to 100 ml. twice a day. 

2. Shoot of Palāśa (bastard teak)-6 to 12 g. bruised in 50 ml. cold water to be taken twice a day. 

3. Dugdha Siddha with equal part of fruit of Kapittha (wood apple), Bilva (bael) roots of Kaṇṭakārī (yellow berried night shade) and Ikṣu, leaf of Paṭola (a variety of small cucumber-snake gourd)-100 to 250 ml., twice a day.

Ninth Month 

1. Grind equal part of roots of Eraṇḍa (castor) and Kākolī-6 to 12 g. in cold water and to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day. 

2. Grind seed of Palāśa (bastard teak), roots of Sahacara and Kākolī-6 to 12 g. with Kāñjī. It is to be taken twice a day. 

3. Dugdha Siddha with powder of equal part of roots of Yaṣṭimadhu (glycyrrhiza), Sārivā (Indian Sarsaparilla), Kṣīra-Kākolī and Kṛṣṇa Sārivā-100 to 250 ml. to be taken twice a day.

Compound Preparations

(for all months) 

1. Lavaṅgādi Cūrṇa: 1 to 3 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day. 

2. Śatāvarī Cūrṇa: 1 to 3 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day. 

3. Candanādi Kvātha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken twice a day. 

4. Hrīberādi Kvātha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken twice a day. 

5. Garbha Pāla Rasa: 120 to 250 mg. to be taken with honey sufficient to make a paste twice a day. 

6. Muktā Bhasma: 60 to 120 mg. to be taken with honey sufficient to make a paste twice a day. 

7. Amṛtaprāśa Avaleha: 8 to 12 g. to be taken twice a day. 

8. Cyavanaprāśa Avaleha: 12 to 24 g. to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day. 

9. Phalakalyāṇa Ghṛta: 6 to 12 g. to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day. 

10. Aśvagandhāriṣṭa: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken with equal quantity of water after meal twice a day.

External Applications

1. Mṛttikā Lepa over the pelvis.

Pathya

ŚāIi variety of rice, Mudga (Phaseolus bean), Godhūma (wheat), Lājā (pop of paddy), Saktu, Kadalī (banana), fruit rind of Āmalakī (embelic myrobalan), Drākṣā (raisin or grape fruit), ripe fruit of Āmra (mango), butter, ghee, Rasāla, honey, Śarkarā (raw sugar) are the useful articles of diet for the patients of Garbha Srāva and Garbha Pāta. Massage, soft bed, cold climate, moon light, Sugandha Dravya Dhāraṇa and complete bed rest are advisable.

Apathya

Amla, Kaṭu, Tikta, Guru and Abhiṣyandi Dravya; Kṣāra, incompatible food items in diet and unrelished food are harmful for the patients of Garbha Srāva and Garbha Pāta. lt;br>
Hard bed, grief, anger, frightful emotions, suppression of calls of nature, fast, food in the night, travel, Svedana, Vamana, sitting up at night, sleeping in supine position, sexual intercourse, purgation, meat, wine, uncherished food, peeping into wells deep rivers should be avoided.
